The Death Cafe

The Death Cafe

April 17 at 2:30 pm 4:30 pm

Welcome to the North Bristol Death Cafe. FoCCaL is very pleased to host, for the first time, a Death cafe at Clifton Library; The North Bristol Death Cafe has been set up to reclaim the conversation about life, death and dying.

Since 2011 there have been more than 15,000 death cafes held across 83 countries. The lovely Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid developed the idea in the UK “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” A Death Cafe is a safe space in which to share questions, ideas and even anxieties around death and dying – thoughts that we may have been secretly harbouring but haven’t had the chance to air before. It is an opportunity to express our deepest fears and listen to others’ experiences, and whilst a Death Cafe is not a bereavement group, it can be a time to think and talk more freely about one of society’s greatest taboos.

There is never a charge for attending meetings. They’re a welcoming, drop-in meeting place for a (free) cuppa and a slice of cake – that doesn’t sound too scary does it? Come along an join us on Wednesday 17th April at 2.30pm.

For more information about the global movement that is Death Cafes, visit the informative website: https://deathcafe.com where you can find where death cafes are happening all around the world.
