Can Bristol’s new approach to governance be made to work? In May 2024 the mayor will leave office and a new system of running the city will begin; one consisting of committees and leaders chosen by Council. Will this be more effective? More democratic? More open? Will it get the right things done? Will governance be more cooperative? And what if one party wins a majority? Ex Clifton Down Councillor, Clive Stevens, will be speaking and drawing lessons from his book ‘After the Revolution – lessons from local government on designing a dynamic democracy’ and talk about what needs to be done to put local democracy back into local government. Clive is undertaking a PhD at Bristol University looking at local government processes and differing perceptions of fairness. FREE
Talk starts at 7pm, the bar opens at 6.30pm
